I'm certain that many of us know the story of the Tower of Babel in the biblical account. Here the ancient ones attempted to build something that went up to the heavens. Of course in this instance, God stopped them and they became confused and thus gave up their building. The winding narrow passages go up further encircling the tower until it reaches the top.
